Why should I enroll in the Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN) rather than an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) degree program?

As an ELMSN-qualified nurse, you’re entering the nursing profession with graduate-level knowledge and skills and can elevate your earning potential and stand out to future employers on day one.  Whereas, an ABSN-qualified nurse would typically have to go back to school for another 15 months, just to get on the same footing as the ELMSN grad.  Lastly, an ABSN applicant might not be eligible for financial aid depending on how much they used for their previous degree, while an ELMSN applicant is automatically eligible.

Can I work while I’m in school?

Between a full-time course load and clinical assignments, students are encouraged not to work outside of the program while attending the ELMSN program.

Is there student housing?

We are exploring various housing options for our ELMSN students both on-campus and off-campus.  We can provide additional local housing information in the local McCandless Township area.

Are there work-study opportunities?

No, there are not work-study opportunities or graduate assistantships available for ELMSN students.

What’s other programs are available after I complete my ELMSN degree?

You will have the academic foundation necessary to pursue APRN specialty certification or doctoral-level study after graduation. At La Roche University, we offer you the opportunity to return after your MSN and complete certification coursework for the following specialties: Clinical Nurse Leader, Nursing Administration, and Nursing Education.

Where can I go with this degree?

As an ELMSN graduate from La Roche University, you’ll have the skills and qualifications necessary to pursue bedside nursing roles in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, schools and many other care settings.

Since I don’t have any nursing in my previous work experience, will I be able to work as  an RN upon graduation?

Graduates must sit for the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing licensure exam. Upon successful completion of the exam you will receive your license to practice as a registered nurse.
